What's Happening at the Fair?

The Wahkiakum County Fair Board’s first fund raising Event in 2011 is the Valentine Diamond Dinner planned for February 12, at the Skamokawa Grange Hall. We held our first Valentine Dinner committee meeting and assigned the various tasks that need to be done to make this dinner extra special for all who attend. The planning committee members are Martha Backman, Cheryl Backman, Blair Brady, Jean Beerbower, Neil Beerbower, Bill Coons, Jerry Ledtke, Gregg Carlson, Becky Ledtke, Carrie Kennedy and Mike Backman. This is a great committee of experienced people to work with, we all have prepared dinners for large groups and we all enjoy theme decorating and planning this type of event!

Valentine Diamond Dinner tickets cost $25 and include one raffle ticket, a great dinner and entertainment. You can purchase your tickets at the Bank of the Pacific in Cathlamet or call Becky at 795-3434. If you live in the Grays River, Rosburg or the Naselle area, 2010 Wahkiakum County Fair Queen Cassie Bolton is selling tickets to the dinner at the Rosburg Store. Don’t miss this fun evening, get your tickets today! All funds raised by this event will be used to operate your 2011 Wahkiakum County Fair.

A big thank you goes to the Pioneer Community Association for donating two beautiful wood benches and some nice glassware to the Fair. The glassware will be sold at “Jean’s Treasures & Rummage Fair Sale,” all proceeds from the sale support the operation of the 2011 Fair. Thank you for donating these nice items to the Fair!

At our work party last Sunday we decided to move books and do some carpentry projects in the T-building. Bryan Ledtke and Azery Gribskov moved all the heavy boxes of books into the T-building. With that big move done, Jean can get the books all organized and ready to sell! Becky and Jerry started working on the peg board carpentry project. The peg board had to be removed from the walls in the T-building when the windows were replaced, which means it also has to go back up. With help from Azery and Bryan this was accomplished also. So while we are all working in the T-building and Jean is arranging her sale items, where was Neil? He was out on the Fairgrounds digging up water system valves, making maps and figuring out the pipe system so we can shut down parts of the water system and leave others on.

A very much appreciated donation to the Fair was made by Dan Turner and family. The family donated many like new items that can be sold at “Jean’s Treasures and Rummage Fair Sale.” Thank you to the Turner family for supporting the Fair!

The recent high water and heavy rain means it is still too wet for horse riding in the arena. We are sorry for the inconvenience. If you would like to receive updates on the riding arena, please call the numbers below, or watch this column for information.
