Marina awaits permit to replace F Dock

Port District 1 hopes to replace a section of the F-dock, but it needs a permit from the US Corps of Engineers for in-stream work.

The district board strategized how to get the letter of permission it needs at its regular meeting on January 13.

The dock is scheduled to be delivered on February 15th. “If we don’t get permission, it sits in the parking lot ‘til next fall,” said port manager Jackie Lea. The US Corps of Engineers and Washington Fish and Wildlife set the in-water-work window for the port between January 11th and February 28.

The port is replacing the 660-foot dock for permanent moorage in sections of 135-150 feet, and using annual revenue to pay for it. This is the third section to be replaced, Lea said.

The board directed Lea to continue to contact corps officials and to contact legislators as well. Board member Larry Bonds said, “If we don’t have the permit by the next meeting (scheduled for February 2nd), we may have to declare an emergency” to be able to complete the work.

In other business, the port approved a $2500 contract with the newly formed Wahkiakum Chamber of Commerce to market and advertise port facilities.

Board President Gary Quigley will participate in the Wahkiakum Marine Resource Committee, a county group funded by the state department of Fish and Wildlife aimed at coordinating volunteers for marine resource projects.

The board met in executive session to discuss potential litigation.
