Grant F. Erickson, 89, a life long resident of Naselle, died in Longview on December 9, 2010. The only child of Fredrick Erickson and Emily (Takalo), he was born in Astoria on January 16, 1921. Grant grew up in Naselle where he graduated from high school in 1940 and played varsity football for the Comets.
In 1942 he enlisted in the US Army and was stationed in England serving as a medic. Following military duty Grant resided in Portland where he met Mary June Corder and they were married in 1949.
Returning to Naselle, Grant fished commercially for a time before gaining employment with the Washington Highway Department, retiring in 1978.
Grant attended Naselle Lutheran Church for much of his life. He enjoyed a variety of outdoor pursuits, was proud of his Finnish ancestry, and was very much a family man.
Mary June died in an auto accident in 1989. Grant later married Genevieve Haven and she died in April of 2010. Grant is survived by his son Wayne (Becky) Erickson of Rosburg; daughters Pamela (Walt) Hopp of Kirkland, WA and Melody (Gary) Worth of Longview; 13 grandchildren; 16 grandchildren; several step children and various other family members.
Graveside service will be Sat., January 15, 2011, 12 Noon at Peaceful Hill Cemetery in Naselle with a memorial service at 1:00 PM at Naselle Lutheran Church; a reception follows. His complete obituary and guestbook is available at http://www.penttilaschapel.com.
