What's happening at the Fair?

We have some great news! The Wahkiakum County Fair Board has a tax deductible Wahkiakum Fair Friends account with the Wahkiakum Community Foundation. Your donation to the Wahkiakum County Fair is tax deductible and your contribution will ensure that our community enjoys our historical Fair each summer. Please send your tax deductible contribution to the Wahkiakum County Fair, P. O. Box 1, Skamokawa, WA 98647. Make checks payable to the Wahkiakum Community Foundation with a note on your check directing the donation to the Fair Friends account. Thank you!

The Wahkiakum County Fair Board’s first Fundraising Event in 2011 is planned for February 12th . We will serve our “Valentine Diamond Dinner” at the Skamokawa Grange Hall. The bacon wrapped filet mignon steaks will be cooked to perfection by County Commissioner Blair Brady, Fair Board Vice-President Neil Beerbower and friend of the fair Bill Coons. We will add a baked potato with all the fixings, a colorful organic salad, bread rolls, dessert and a glass of wine to complete your dinner. Other beverages will be available and coffee too.

Kathleen Peterson will entertain our guests with her lovely soft piano playing as they enjoy their dinner. Later in the evening she is planning to perform a few sing-a-long songs too. Dale Costich will take the stage next with his guitar and sing some beautiful love songs. The cost is the same as last year, still only $25 per dinner. Our price includes one raffle ticket, your chance to win the Grand Prize of the evening a diamond necklace” You can purchase more raffle tickets at $1 each during the dinner. These raffle tickets can only be bought exclusively by our dinner guests. You can purchase your dinner tickets at the Bank of the Pacific in Cathlamet or call Becky at 795-3434. If you live in the Grays River, Rosburg or the Naselle area, 2010 Wahkiakum County Fair Queen Cassie Bolton is selling tickets to the dinner at the Rosburg Store. Don’t miss out, get your tickets today! All funds raised by this event will be used to operate the 2011 Wahkiakum County Fair.

The Fair needs your help, your email in support of state fair funding will make a difference! Please contact Senator Brian Hatfield at brian.hatfield@leg.wa.gov, Representative Brian Blake at brian.blake@leg.wa.gov and Representative Dean Takko at dean.takko@leg.wa.gov. Ask them to put the fair funds back into the 2011 supplemental budget and the next biennial budget of 2012-2013. If they receive an inbox full of e-mails they will know county fairs are important to the people in Washington and do all they can to get fair funds back into the budget. Thank you for your help!

On January 1, I put a new lock on the horse gate. If you would like to use the arena in 2011 it's time to purchase a new key, the cost is a bargain at $50 a year. Call Becky at 360-560-0371, leave your name, phone number, message and we can meet at the fairgrounds and complete the paperwork.

If you need to gain access to the fairgrounds contact Fair Board President Becky Ledtke @ 795-3434 or you can call 1-360-795-3480 and leave a message.

The next Wahkiakum County Fair Board meeting is February 9, 7 p.m., River Street Building Meeting Room in Cathlamet. The public is always welcome to attend.
