Park and Recreation District a good idea

To The Eagle:

In reading the December 30 edition of the Wahkiakum County Eagle, I have some more things that we should all consider and look at thinking positive and expressing our own opinion.

I totally agree with our county commissioner on the thought that we should form a Park and Recreation District on the Johnson Park site. I've been thinking along the same lines for close to 10 years when the school and the county have been wanting the county to take over the operation of the area. I was a fifth grader when that school opened and it was the Johnny Johnson and wife and family that donated it for the school site.

I invited Kathy Detrich Bevis and her mom and dad to come down from Vancouver to look at the potential that the 18 acres would have if it were made into a park with several different uses. Kathy is an architect who works in the category of designing parks, and by having this piece of ground in a park and recreation district, it could have several different uses. The thing I would like to see up there is an assisted living facility. We could rent a space to a company that is in that business and with our permission, they could build the facility they need and rent the space from the district.

With all the talk of changing the development of planning, we need to have people with a very broad mind to lay it out initially.

Well, I'm getting to the bottom of my page so I won't bring up the point that I think should be considered in Skamokawa that would broaden our very good county fair.

Remember, fellow residents, we are the ones who are responsible for improving our county.

Robert Larson,

Grays River
