Marie M. (Markovich) Didricksen, 89, of Cathlamet, passed away, Thursday, December 30, 2010 in Longview. Marie was born August 12, 1921 in Portland, Ore. to Joseph and Frances (Mladinich) Markovich and grew up on the family farm in Aloha, Ore. At age 18 she moved to Cathlamet where she resided until her final days, with the exception of a year working in war defense in Portland during WWII and a half-year in Seward, AK following her marriage to George Didricksen in 1944.
For 21 years, Marie owned and operated Marie’s Café in Cathlamet. She was active in St. Catherine’s Catholic Church, Altar Society and Homemakers Club and was well known to family and friends for her love of flowers, cats and people.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband, George and son, Joseph. She is survived by her son, John of Cathlamet, a sister, Katherine Lead of Portland, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to acknowledge the dedicated home care given to Marie during her last years by Lynah Gale and Alexandria Arness, and others.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Friday January 7, at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church with viewing being held prior to the service at 10 a.m.. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Marie Didricksen’s name to Community Hospice, P.O. Box 2067, Longview, WA 98632.
