Arlene I. Lawson

Longtime Cathlamet resident, Arlene I. Lawson, 89, passed away January 4, 2011 at Columbia View Care Center. She was born November 3, 1921 in Trenton, NE to Emil F. and Paulina (Hedke) Stienke. She married Jack Lawson in 1935 and together they moved to Cathlamet; he preceded her in death in 1997.

Arlene was a member of Cathlamet Assembly of God Church. She worked at Columbia View Care Center for 25 years as a nurse’s aid. She was devoted to her family. In her later years, Arlene’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the focus of her everyday life. She was an “adopted grandma” to many.

She is survived by her daughter, Johnnie Knowles of Cathlamet; a sister, Twyla Thomas of Denver, Colo .; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Jack; she was preceded in death by her sons, Leroy and Dwight Lawson and her six brothers.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday at River of Life Assembly of God Church with burial to follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Arlene Lawson’s name to Columbia View Activities Fund, P.O. Box 338, Cathlamet, WA 98612.
