What's happening at the Fair?

2010 has been a great year! The Wahkiakum County Fair Board members have enjoyed working with the volunteers that show up when we need help on our projects. We appreciate our community faithfully attending our fund raising events and look forward to planning the 2011 Fair! We wish our friends and neighbors a “Happy New Year!”

T-building project news: Wednesday afternoon the temperature climbed up to 55 degrees, which means interior paint will actually dry. I gathered up my family Jerry, Bryan and Valle, asked them if they would like to spend some time helping me paint and off we went to the Fairgrounds. The end walls and window frames received their second coat of paint, they look really nice. Thank you Jerry, Bryan and Valle!

Attention all horse owners that train and ride their horses at the Wahkiakum County Fairgrounds Arena. On January 1st we will be putting a new lock on the horse gate. If you would like to use the arena in 2011 it's time to purchase a new key, the cost is a bargain at $50 a year. Call Becky at 360-560-0371, leave your name, phone number, message and we can meet at the fairgrounds and complete the paperwork.

On February 12 we will serve our “Valentine Diamond Dinner” at the Skamokawa Grange. Our dinner menu: bacon wrapped filet mignon, baked potato with all the fixings, salad, rolls, dessert and a glass of wine. We are also in the process of lining up the entertainment for this special evening. Cost is only $25 per dinner ticket and the price includes a raffle ticket to win a diamond necklace! I have purchased the necklace for this event and it is beautiful! You can purchase more raffle tickets for the diamond necklace at $1 each during the dinner, these tickets can only be bought exclusively by our dinner guests. Dinner tickets are available to purchase now and if you have a party of six you can reserve a private table for the evening, call Becky at 795-3434 to get your tickets.

The “2011 Fair Theme Contest” is going to end January 31! We need more ideas from our community so we can pick an interesting theme for our 2011 Fair. If you would like to enter the “2011 Fair Theme Contest” please call 795-3480 or send your name, phone number and theme idea to E-mail: wahkiakumfair@centurytel.net or Address: Wahkiakum County Fair, P.O.Box 1, Skamokawa, Wa 98647. The Fair Board will select the most creative theme and award two Fair t-shirts and two Fair passes to the contest winner in February. Last year's theme was “Blue Jeans and Country Dreams.” Please submit your ideas for a fair theme by the end of January.

The fair office is open by appointment only. If you need to gain access to the fairgrounds contact Fair Board President Becky Ledtke @ 795-3434 or you can call 1-360-795-3480 and leave a message.

The next Wahkiakum County Fair Board meeting is January 12, 7 p.m., River Street Building Meeting Room in Cathlamet. The public is always welcome to attend.
