Calvin and Evelyn Carroll of La Center, Washington joined the Lord on December 15, 2010. Calvin, 74, was born July 9, 1936, in Teague, Texas to Leron and Lola (Schick) Carroll. Evelyn, 70, was born September 4, 1940, in Turlock, Calif. to Paul and Hermina (Michalec) Carroll.
They were married April 7, 1956, raised their girls in Castle Rock then returned to Skamokawa, where they had met.
Calvin worked as a logger and truck driver for Durrah and Martin Logging and was known as ‘Mule Train’ on the CB radio. He retired and became an avid motorcyclist, frequently touring the United States with his life-long partner, Evelyn.
Evelyn spent the early years of their marriage as a devoted wife and mother. After raising their daughters, Evelyn spent many years employed by Sears before starting her own income tax and accounting business, Evelyn’s Accounting.
Both were former members of the Skamokawa Fire Department and the Skamokawa Grange. They were members of the Gold Wing Touring Association, holding several positions including Chapter Directors, State Officers, and Board Representatives.
Calvin and Evelyn are survived by their three daughters and their husbands: Deborah and Lawrence Martin, Pamela and Layton Elliott and Katherine and Richard Brundage,
as well as four grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
Calvin is also survived by three brothers, Foster P. Carroll, W.D. Carroll and Bevan Hartigan, as well as sisters Nelwyn Orellana, Elaine Levines and Sandra Martinez.
Evelyn is also survived by brothers Paul C. ‘Chuck’ Carroll and Daniel ‘Danny’ Carroll, and was preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy ‘Dot’ Smith.
Funeral services were held December 22, 2010 at Dowling Funeral Home in Cathlamet. The couple are interred at Fernhill Cemetery in Skamokawa.
Dowling Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
