AIDS benefit concert set for December 28

Stephanie Wise, a former student of Naselle High School, will host a second AIDS benefit at the Naselle/Grays River High School Commons, starting at 6 p.m. on December 28.

Wise, who is currently majoring in professional writing and political science at Baylor University in Waco, Tex., hosted the first concert in 2007, and another concert was organized for 2008 but canceled due to record snows.

This year's proceeds are going to an AIDS hospice in South Africa, Genesis Hope's Sponsor-a-Bed Programme. Wise chose this program because several of her friends at her university have visited the hospice. The center's products will be available at the concert or donations can be made at their website , genesishope.co.za.

Performers include Carl Wirkkala and the Ghost Town Boys, the Sou-west-Aires Quartet, Kelsi Nelson, Gene Quilhaugh, and others.

Three Astoria businesses have donated gift cards as door prizes this year, including Astoria Coffeehouse, Fort George Brewery, and Fulio's Pastaria. To qualify for these gift cards, you must either attend the concert or make a donation of $20. More details on how to donate and information on cancellations or postponements are available at NaselleAIDS.blogspot.com.
