What's Happening at the Fair?

The “2011 Fair Theme Contest” is getting close to ending! We need more ideas from our community so we can pick an interesting theme for our 2011 Fair. If you would like to enter the “2011 Fair Theme Contest” please call 795-3480 or send your name, phone number and theme idea to E-mail: wahkiakumfair@centurytel.net or Address: Wahkiakum County Fair, P.O.Box 1, Skamokawa, Wa 98647. The Fair Board will select the most creative theme and award two Fair T-shirts and two Fair passes to the contest winner in January. (Last years’ theme was “Blue Jeans and Country Dreams”.) Please submit your ideas for a fair theme by the end of December.

Wanted, some strong people to help move boxes of books. Jean Beerbower has collected books all year and sold them at Fair Board fund raising book sales . We would like to keep these books in a little higher and drier building. The books are currently in the new exotic barn and we would sure appreciate some help to move them to the T-building. The books are already boxed up and ready to go, please give me a call if you can help get these books moved. We will store these books until spring, and again bring in funds to support our Fair.

We are creating a network of volunteers for 2011 and we’d like to invite you to join us as we plan, build, paint and think about what new projects we’d like to accomplish this year at the Fairgrounds. If you are new to our community this is a great way to meet people and create some good friendships. Everyone has a talent or skill to offer and we would welcome your help!

The T-building grant windows project is moving along, all the windows are trimmed and ready to paint. When we received this grant for the new windows, the grant required some matching volunteer hours to complete the project. To finish the project we also needed to install a new door, Neil Beerbower completed this part of the project last week-end. Next we will paint around the windows, then we need to paint two end walls and rebuild two 12 foot counter tops. If you have a few hours to help with this project give me a call at the phone number listed below.

The fair office is open by appointment only. If you need to gain access to the fairgrounds contact Fair Board President Becky Ledtke @ 795-3434 or you can call 1-360-795-3480 and leave a message.

The next Wahkiakum County Fair Board meeting is January 12, 7 p.m., River Street Building Meeting Room in Cathlamet. The public is always welcome to attend.
