Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
The Grays River Grange has a long standing tradition of putting on an old fashioned family Christmas party. This year’s party will be held on December 14 at Johnson Park with the potluck dinner beginning at 6 p.m. The Grange will furnish the turkey for the dinner. Guests are asked to provide side dishes and desserts. Area residents are encouraged to attend and you do not have to be a Grange member to enjoy the party.
If you have never attended, you should be prepared for a wonderful dinner, Christmas carols, and a rendition of The Night before Christmas narrated by Bob Pyle which is a real treat. Steve Puddicombe will be the Master of Ceremonies and will lead us all in carols. Of course, a Christmas party would not be a Christmas party without a visit from Santa Claus. Santa will make an appearance and hand out presents to the children. Parents attending should bring a Santa gift for your child. Guests are asked to bring canned food and non-perishable items which will be donated to the Wahkiakum County Food Bank. Not to be left out, there will also be a gift exchange for the adults. Those wanting to be a part of the gift exchange should bring a gift costing under $5. Ladies should bring a gift for ladies and men for men. Gifts need to be labeled male or female.
The Grange, being a civic organization, began a new tradition at last’s year Christmas party by making monetary donations to local charities, groups, and/or individuals. The charities and groups chosen to receive a donation this year are: Wahkiakum Co. Fair, Wahkiakum Co. 4-H, Wahkiakum County Food Bank, Johnson’s Park - Kitchen Fund, and the Deep River Church with $1000 to be divided amongst those groups. Representatives from each organization will be asked to attend to accept their contribution. The Grange is supported by the community in many ways throughout the year and especially during fair time where many a meal is purchased from our food booth. In return, we would like to confirm our support for our community.
