For those concerned with heating costs for their home this fall and winter, the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) may be able to help.
LIHEAP is a federally funded program administered by the Lower Columbia Action Program (CAP) in Longview and provides assistance with winter heating bills, electricity, wood, wood pellets, oil, propane, coal or natural gas, to income eligible households. Monthly net household income limits are $1,128 for one person, $1,518 for two, $1,907 for three, $2,297 for four, $2,868 for five, $3,076 for six and $3,466 for seven. Additional income is allowed for larger families.
Wahkiakum County residents may schedule an appointment by calling the Energy Assistance Department at CAP at 425-3430 or 1-800-383-2101 extension 231. Callers should state they are from Wahkiakum County; CAP will set up appointments for county residents at Health and Human Services, 42 Elochoman Valley Road in Cathlamet; schedule is to be announced.
