What's happening at the Fair?

The Fairgrounds is ready for winter weather. Everything has been done to protect our Fair properties from the freezing temperatures that destroyed our pipes last year. There is a really distinct climate difference between Skamokawa and Cathlamet. Last week Skamokawa had temperatures in the teens and three inches of snow. I drove to Cathlamet and there wasn’t any snow or ice on the roads. Heading home, up the Skamokawa Valleys I drove back into a snow blizzard again!

Neil Beerbower and Jerry Ledtke finally got all the T-building windows trimmed, framed in and ready to paint last week-end. That was a lot of windows to work on, 21 in fact, and each one a challenge. We could start painting except for one problem, there are boards and sawdust everywhere. Clean up crew time!

The Wahkiakum County Fair Board would like to thank these wonderful people and businesses in our community and beyond that donated to our “Turkey Bingo” fund raiser.

J.’s, Art’s Electric, Midas, Les Schwab, Star Rental, Sizzler, Cowlitz River Rigging, Cathlamet Market, Bank of the Pacific, Backman Fisheries, Cathlamet Barbershop, Janell Seaberg Liquor Store, Becky and Jerry Ledtke, Martha Backman, Bottoms Up Espresso, The Video Store, Riverview Restaurant, Alternatives Hair Salon, Esther Gregg, ‘Tis the Season Holiday Shop, Howies Coffee House, Wahkiakum West, Columbia River Realty, Lower Columbia Realty and Jack Tobin. The year 2010 has been a very busy one for the Wahkiakum County Fair Board. We did a lot of fund raising this year because of the many projects we were trying to accomplish before Fair. Your continued support keeps our Fair a summer tradition in Wahkiakum County. Thank-you for faithfully attending Fair Board events!

Our next fundraiser will be a Valentine Dinner on February 12 at the Skamokawa Grange. We are just starting to plan the dinner and entertainment. Tickets will be for sale in January.

It's 2011 Fair theme time, if we pick the theme you submitted, you will receive two Fair passes and two Wahkiakum County Fair t-shirts. Send your theme entry to: Wahkiakum County Fair, P.O.Box 1, Skamokawa, WA 98647.

The fair office is open by appointment only. If you need to gain access to the fairgrounds contact Fair Board President Becky Ledtke @ 795-3434 or you can call 1-360-795-3480 and leave a message.

The next Wahkiakum County Fair Board meeting is December 8, 7 p.m., River Street Building Meeting Room in Cathlamet. The public is always welcome to attend.
