What's Happening at the Fair?

The Wahkiakum County Fair Board would like to say thank you to the many bingo game players that attended Turkey Bingo last Friday night. This event has been organized by Fair Board members Martha and Cheryl Backman to raise funds to support the Wahkiakum County Fair for many years. Thank you Martha and Cheryl, you did a great job again!

We had a mountain of raffle prizes donated to this event from friends and businesses. Mike Backman used my ticket spinner and about wore the handle off it making sure the tickets were mixed up good. He did a great job, almost everyone that purchased a raffle ticket went home with a prize. Thank you to all who donated gift certificates and merchandise! Your donations help attract people to our fund raising events and make them successful.

Zach Calvert bought the lucky raffle ticket and took home our grand prize, a Nintendo Wii game system. Congratulations Zach!

Every game of bingo played was suspenseful and exciting. The winning card holder would receive a turkey or a ham for their bingo. Sometimes there would be two bingos at the same time. Mike was our number caller, and would have to do a “bingo run-off” to determine the winner. Now that’s intense bingo! The huge turkeys and hams were donated to this fund raising event by friends and businesses that enjoy attending and supporting our Fair. I suspect there will be some delicious Thanksgiving dinners in Wahkiakum County cooked this week by many of our lucky bingo players!

If you enjoyed our Turkey Bingo event be sure to bring your family and friends to our Easter Bingo event in April! All proceeds from Wahkiakum County Fair Board fund raising events go directly toward the 2011 Wahkiakum County Fair.

The Fairgrounds water system has been drained and winterized! Cold winter storms were heading for Skamokawa. With the help of Chuck Beyer and Josh Tallman this project got underway last Thursday. Chuck and Josh drained half the system and gave me instructions on how to complete the draining after the 4-H Rummage Sale closed. Neil Beerbower, Jerry Ledtke and I finished draining the system on Saturday. Neil also used a compressor to put air into the system and force out the water that didn’t drain out. Thank you Chuck, Josh, Neil and Jerry for getting this accomplished! Just in time too, Sunday it started snowing!

Jean Beerbower opened up the Fair book sale last Saturday in the Exotic animal barn and quite a few people walked back to browse through the books. Jean has collected hundreds of books, perfect for winter lazy day reading. Watch this column for her next sale date.

The Wahkiakum County Fair Board: Becky, Jerry, Neil, Jean, Debbie, Gordon, Phil, Martha, Cheryl, Patty, Kay and Gregg, hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

The fair office is open by appointment only. If you need to gain access to the fairgrounds contact Fair Board President Becky Ledtke @ 795-3434 or you can call 1-360-795-3480 and leave a message.

The next Wahkiakum County Fair Board meeting is December 8, 7 p.m., River Street Building Meeting Room. The public is always welcome to attend.
