News from Naselle:
The Naselle Grays River Valley School District held a special Veteran’s Day Celebration to honor our veterans on November 10. Several local veterans were in attendance and were given special recognition. It was a wonderful experience for the students, the community and the honored veterans. We certainly owe them for their service and sacrifice and for our freedom.
We also need to remember every day those who are serving now in order to maintain our free nation. Thank you to all the veterans who served past, present and future.

Have you ever driven up Salmon Creek Road and come across a small camp? My husband and I took a motorcycle ride a few years back and happened upon the well kept and often used camp. It’s called Tunerville Camp. It seems that the Department of Natural Resources is once again trying to close it down, and that date is fast approaching. They plan to close it in January 2011.
There is a campaign going to change their mind in the community. If you would like to be a part of that campaign and save the camp, please contact Jewell at 360 942-3672 or e-mail her at jewelh@centurytel.net.
The community saved the camp from closure once, so let’s stand together again and keep it open for those who use it for recreation.
Other news from the Westend:
I had a wonderful breakfast last Saturday at the American Legion breakfast in Deep River. My husband wasn’t able to attend but my uncle, David Hammonds, who was very involved in the American Legion in Juneau, Alaska before moving here, called and invited me to go with him. Great food and good service from Naselle High School students getting in some community service. Thank you, Uncle David.
Unfortunately, I didn’t make it to the Holiday Bazaar and luncheon at Rosburg Hall, but I understand it was a huge success, with lots of great items and baked goods for sale, and the usual yummy chicken lunch. I did have the opportunity to see some of the items that were for sale, as Penny Gregory bought some really cute leather booties (handmade) for her new grandson.
Don’t forget the St. James Family Center’s Bazaar this coming weekend. I mention this because there will be a booth there for Kenzie Abbott and her quest for her service dog. Her parents will be there as well, and will be taking preorders for the fund raising cookbook. Pre-ordered books are $12 if you order by December 3. After that they are $14. Great Christmas gifts.
They will also be doing T-shirts, airbrushing temporary tattoos and selling a unique product call “magic plants.” As the plant grows they display a message. Sounds like something really interesting.
The Wednesday Senior lunch Bunch that meets at Rosburg Hall will enjoy navy bean and ham soup with corn bread and dessert on the 24th.
Senior lunches served by CAP on Tuesdays and Thursdays will include the following menus for the coming week: Thursday, the 18th – chicken Divan, roasted potatoes, Capri veggies, sliced melon and pudding; Tuesday, the 23rd – beef pot roast, steamed potatoes, carrots and mushrooms and strawberry/rhubarb crisp.
Birthdays being celebrated this coming week include: Donna Goddard, Katie Bjornsgard, Natalie Wirkkala, Pat Howerton, Chris Dorman, Alexa York, George Klint, Connor McIntee, Patrick McIntee, Melodie Rugg, Samuel Scrabeck, Nancy Cooper, Donna Klint, Brian Larson, Shelley Gilbert, Doug Tetz, Aaron Smith, Kevin Wirkkala, Robbie Johnson, Serena Johnson, Emily Albright, Ciara Sandell, Jack Smith, Dustin Dunham and Bob Caetano.
Happy Anniversary wishes to the following couples this week: Rikki and Jill Saari, Jim and Marilyn Strange, Rick and Patty Rose and Chuck and Roxanne Hendrickson
