Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:
October 18--9:36 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a woman who needed transportation to a hospital. 11:01 a.m. A motorist reported a car had sustained lots of damage when it ran over a rock on SR 4 at Milepost 38; the state patrol was notified. 3:19 p.m. A Cathlamet resident reported being harassed; a deputy made contact. 10:03 p.m. A Rosedale resident said it appeared a man was under someone's house; no one was found when an officer arrived.
October 19--11:29 a.m. A Rosedale resident reported finding drug paraphernalia in some clothing; a deputy investigated. 4:10 p.m. A Rosedale business reported someone had driven off without paying for gasoline; deputies responded. 4:52 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported coming home to find a red-brown horse with a halter wandering in her yard; no owner was identified. 10:02 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a Cathlamet man with chest pain.
October 20--7:20 a.m. A caller reported a fire of unknown origin off the Altoona/Pillar Rock Road; an officer responded and found it was from a burn barrel. 12:16 p.m. A Westend resident reported people were snagging salmon off Satterlund Road; the state Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) was notified. 1:30 p.m. A boater reported seeing a body along the beach of Coffee Pot Island; officers and the coroner recovered the body, which was identified as an Oregon man who fell off his sailboat October 10; see separate story in this edition for more information. 5:04 p.m. A caller said someone was pumping water from the Elochoman River and had fastened a cable across the river; WDFW was notified. 5:27 p.m. Altoona/Pillar Rock Road residents reported a power outage; Wahkiakum PUD was notified. 6:10 p.m. A West Birnie Slough Road resident reported what sounded like rifle shots, and the sounds were spooking livestock.
October 21--3:08 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a Cathlamet man having chest pain. 10:55 a.m. Thomas Middle School requested an officer to assist in handling a problem with a juvenile. 4:12 p.m. A caller reported a trespasser at a Beaver Creek Road address. 4:49 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a woman at a Beaver Creek Road address. 7:40 p.m. A caller reported a burglary; a deputy responded. 8:29 p.m. As an officer approached a middle school dance in Cathlamet, a subject ran away; an officer made contact and confired the subject was wanted on a Pacific County warrant. 9:16 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a woman at a Beaver Creek Road residence.
October 22--8:31 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a Rosedale man who had fallen. 5:27 p.m. A Skamokawa resident reported more items were missing from the burglary the previous day. 7:11 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a one-year-old child with breathing trouble.
October 23--2:56 a.m. A Puget Island resident reported being threatened by a man; at 3:06 a.m. a person had left and the situation was okay. 10:36 a.m. An East Birnie Slough Road resident reported a theft of a chainsaw. 2:24 p.m. A non-injury traffic accident was reported on SR 4 at Milepost 12; the state patrol was notified. 3:33 p.m. A caller reported a person was trespassing at a Beaver Creek Road address; a deputy was advised. 3:52 p.m. WDFW requested an assist in arresting a Greenwood Hill man for an illegal deer kill; officers found the hunter had correctly notched his deer tag. 5:57 p.m. A Cathlamet resident reported being harassed by a phone call.
October 24--6:49 a.m. Lewis County authorities requested an assist in a search for a man lost near Pe Ell; Wahkiakum Search and Rescue mobilized and responded. 4:38 p.m. A motorist reported it appeared that teens were smoking pot in a car headed northbound on Puget Island; the state patrol was advised. 4:43 p.m. A West Valley resident reported someone had left a Jeep and shot a deer from the roadway; the WDFW agent made contact. 9:15 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a Rosedale woman having chest pain. 10:52 p.m. A South Welcome Slough Road resident said roaming dogs had become a problem; a deputy made contact.
