Other news from the Westend:
It looks like Mother Nature took the issue of the fish trap and weir in Grays River next to the Covered Bridge into her own hands, over the weekend. The fish trap is on a sand bar downstream with woody debris packed around it and the weir panels are lying in several locations downstream as well. As an added bonus to the fish, the trap above the steel bridge at SR 4 has been damaged as well and is well downstream of its original location. Now maybe the fishing will be better and the fish can reach their intended spawning areas without so much interference. Our tax dollars at work!
Mark your calendar for a special evening of music and fun featuring a group of musicians from Finland called “Parahulta.” This free concert will take place on October 23, from 7p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Johnson Park (old Rosburg School in Rosburg), and will include refreshments. This event is made possible by the Naselle Finn-Am Group and Johnson Park. Though the concert is free, donations will gladly be accepted.
Grays River Friendship Circle’s annual Stew Lunch & Bazaar, featuring their traditional harvest-time menu of beef stew, delectable cheese bread, beverages and dessert will be served in the Grays River United Methodist Church social hall on October 22 and 23 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be crafts, original paintings, clothing and home decorations, plus a second hand shop, and a bake sale. Takeout meals will be available again this year. A free will donation is suggested for the meal, and the crafts and baked goods are reasonably priced.

We had the pleasure of a weekend visit from our son Delvin, from California this past weekend. He flew up to make a few suggestions for rebuilding our house after the fire. It helps that he is a carpenter by trade. It was really nice to see him, and get his input. Thanks, son.
