Henry “Hank” Johnson

Cathlamet resident, Henry “Hank” Johnson, 75, passed away October 6, 2010 at Columbia View Care Center. He was born September 22, 1935 in Portland, Ore. to Henry and Katherine (Zahumensky) Johnson.

He graduated from Wahkiakum High School in 1954, received an Associate’s degree from Lower Columbia College, a Bachelor’s degree from Central Washington University in 1959 and in 1961 he received a degree in Education. Hank served in the U.S. Army from 1959-1961. He was a member of the American Legion and Washington State Teacher’s Association.

He lived in Auburn for 30 years, returning to Cathlamet in 1990 after he retired from a career of teaching. Hank was an avid baseball fan and Mule sports fan. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his brother, Carl (Kitty), of Tumwater; nephews, Mike (Chandra) of Olympia, and Chris (Rachel) of Madison, Wisc .; his grand nieces and nephews, Maddie, Ruby, Henry and Ryan. He also leaves behind an extended family of relatives, neighbors and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Mary Ann Nedry.

No service will be held at his request. Private inurnment will take place at Greenwood Cemetery. A gathering of family and friends may be held at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made in Hank Johnson’s name to Wahkiakum High School Athletics, P.O. Box 398, Cathlamet, WA 98612.
