Mules trample Trojans 35-0

The Wahkiakum Mule football team made the long trip to Pe Ell last Friday and come home with a 35-0 win over the Trojans.

The Mules started the game with a bang as Joel Nicolazzi ran the opening kickoff back 77 yards for a touchdown. Lars Blix kicked the conversion--he made seven of seven attempts for the night, and the Mules led 7-0 with only 13 seconds play.

Blix passed to Nicolazzi for a 20-yard touchdown play at 6:01 of the first quarter to boost the Mule lead to 14-0.

In the second quarter, Cameron Elliott scored on a one-yard run at 11:50, and Blix hit him for an 18-yard touchdown passing play at 8:30 to give the Mules a 28-0 halftime play.

Blix closed out the scoring at 7:21 of the fourth quarter on a one-yard run.

Elliott gained 110 yards for the night on 20 carries. Blix completed 19 of 26 passes for 266 yards and two touchdowns. Ryan Helms caught seven passes for 102 yards; Nicolazzi, Kyle Bergquist and Wyatt Parker each caught three passes.

The Mules gained 12 first downs by passing and five by rushing. With 89 yards rushing, they had 355 yards of offense.

Elliott also led the team in tackles with 12. Nicolazzi and Bergquist each had 11, Nathan Cothren eight, Helms and Tylor Russell seven, and Brett Chaput six.

Helms and Blix each intercepted Trojan passes, and Parker and Bergquist recovered Trojan fumbles.

"Elliott and Helms played really good games," said Mule Coach Eric Hansen. "Helms caught everything thrown in his direction."

The 2-2 Mules host the 2-2 Mossyrock Vikings Friday in the annual homecoming game.

"Mossyrock has good backs and a good line," Hansen said. "We can't turn over the ball."
