Sheriff's Report - September 23, 2010

Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

September 13-- 8:44 a.m. A caller reported free ranging guard dogs at a site used for storing junk vehicles. 9:29 a.m. A Skamokawa resident reported the theft of a cell phone. 9:44 a.m. A caller reported a deer stuck in a fence. DFW was notified. 3 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid an elderly female who had fallen and was unable to get up.

September 14--10:10 a.m. Cathlamet fire crews responded to a controlled burn that crossed the control line and burned seven acres.10:14 a.m. Power lines were reported across the highway at the Rosburg Store. Wahkiakum PUD was notified. 5:46 p.m. A caller reported a case of computer trespassing. 8:28 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported disorderly activity involving alcohol.

September 15--1:03 a.m. Reports were made of a vehicle submerged in a slough along SR 4. State patrol was advised. 12:45 p.m. A caller reported their house was filled with smoke from a neighbor's burning for the third day in a row. The neighbor was contacted and extinguished the fire. 7:02 p.m. Reports were made about a 15 ft wide oil slick on the Columbia River at the Puget Island bridge. The Coast Guard was advised.

September 16--6:55 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to take a Puget Island woman to a hospital. 10:14 a.m. A Puget Island resident complained about a neighbor burning plastic and styrofoam. 10:18 a.m. A caller reported the theft of anti-trespassing signs from their property. 1:15 p.m. A Beaver Creek resident reported a suspicious vehicle parking at different spots along the road. 2:26 p.m. A DUI suspect was taken into custody at the ferry dock. 6:05 p.m. A West Valley resident reported that someone had been cutting firewood on her property.

September 17--A caller reported an extended cab that was out of gas was blocking SR 4 west of Skamokawa. 11:31 p.m. An accident was reported involved a single car with multiple occupants at milepost 41 on SR 4.

September 18--5:33 a.m. A caller reported two dogs that appeared to have been abandoned in the Risk Road area of SR 4. 8:37 a.m. A Puget Island resident reported the repossession of two snowmobiles. 12:28 p.m. A case of harassment was reported in progress on River Street. A deputy responded. 2:59 p.m. A caller reported a neighbor's ex-girlfriend was loading items into a truck. A deputy talked with the property owner. 4:33 p.m. Further collapse of the cannery building on Commercial Street was reported. The owners were contacted.

September 19--12:02 a.m. A caller reported her 9-year-old son and his friend had gone missing. The boys later returned home. 1:22 p.m. A caller reported problems between a juvenile and his father. 1:47 p.m. A Beaver Creek Road resident reported a vehicle trespassing on their property. 6:58 p.m. A report was received about cattle loose in the East Valley Road area. The animals damaged gardens and yards before being corralled.
