Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
As I walked around the fairgrounds this year I noticed there were people I didn’t know at our Fair. We also gave out many new exhibitor numbers. These two observations made me suspect that we had more people attending our Fair this year. Patty Dursteler, the Fair Board Treasurer, had the attendance count at the last Fair Board meeting. We had a huge increase in attendance!
The search is on, we are looking for fun and interesting entertainment for our 2011 Fair. Fair Entertainment Committee Chairman Jerry Ledtke and I traveled to the Sandy, Ore. Oktobertfest over the weekend. We visited with and listened to the bands they had for entertainment, then talked with craft vendors that had nice products for sale about our Fair. Good entertainment will bring more people to our Fair, which will help food and craft vendors make a profit, this will encourage more vendors to sell at our Fair, which makes our Fair bigger and better each year. Sounds like a good plan!
The Fair checks have been mailed out! These checks need to be cashed before October 25. If you feel you would rather return the funds to help support the Fair, please give the Fair office a call at 795-3480. We will gladly except your donation and put the funds to work to help support our 103rd Wahkiakum County Fair! Thank-you Kitty Speranza for donating your premium check to help support the Fair in 2011!
Do you have ribbons you would like to give back to the Fair? Please bring them to Lisa Frink at the WSU Extension office in Cathlamet. The office is open 9 a.m.-noon and 12:30-4 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
We received a grant to replace the windows in the T-building and construction has started on this project . The window style was made especially for older buildings where you want to keep that certain look of years past. No more rain and wind will be blowing into the building around these windows!
The fairgrounds is open for limited hours in September. If you need to gain access to the fairgrounds contact Manager Lore Twiet at 360-431-5247, or you can call 1-360-795-3480 and leave a message on the fairgrounds answering machine.
The next Wahkiakum County Fair Board meeting is October 13, 7 p.m., T-Building, at the Fairgrounds in Skamokawa. The public is always welcome to attend.
