Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
To The Eagle:
As local boaters we want to thank the many last minute volunteers who last Saturday pulled off a great function at the marina featuring several events and a chili cook off. It makes us feel good when boaters and land yachters (RV’ers) from other areas look favorably on Cathlamet, which in turn makes us more welcome when we visit their marinas. David Goodroe was like the Dutch boy who found a hole in the dike and rallied the town’s people to save the day. Several hundred people had a great time enjoying chili, racing rubber ducks, tossing tortillas and having their fortunes read. It was a busy weekend for Jackie Lea and her crew at the marina, including Abe York, Scott Dunscomb and Paula Cothren who worked very hard to be sure our boating friends think well of their time in Cathlamet and will consider coming back.
Of particular interest to the Cathlamet Yacht Club was the raffle drawing for the small wooden boat made by Michael Baccellieri of the Welcome Slough Boatworks out of local woods. It was won by Judy Danielsen of Cathlamet. The proceeds from the raffle, as last year, will go toward things that will improve the boating experience in Cathlamet for everyone.
Some of the more notable people David was able to get to pitch in were; Linda Barth, Lynda Gerlach, Janet Cimino who got artists to display their works, Christine Payne-Towler who read taro cards, and the Columbia Crew band who entertained everyone. The judged chili cook off was won by the crew from Pacific Bank, beating the ever-tough Stockhouses. The Renfro family won People’s Choice voting for the best chili. And finally Bernadette Goodroe filled in with extra chili to be sure everyone had enough.
Thank you for making us proud to be part of Cathlamet.
