Mule cheerleaders fare well in camp

The Wahkiakum High School Cheerleaders recently returned from a National Cheerleaders Association summer camp. The camp was held at The Great Wolf Lodge and attracted over 400 cheerleaders from the surrounding states.

The National Cheerleaders Association selects award winners at each of the 1,000 camps it administers around the world each summer. Founded in 1948 by L.R. Herkimer, NCA has been conducting camps for 60 years and holds events annually for 150,000 cheerleaders around the world.

The Wahkiakum Cheerleaders received the following awards at the summer camp they attended.

--The Technical Excellence Award.

--The Spirit Stick X 2 nights

--Three superior rating ribbons.

--One excellent ribbon.

--A National Championship Bid

Individual awards were awarded to Chelsea Paulsen, all American nominee; Megan Perez, all American nominee; Sarah Phillips, all American nominee, and Candice Hoven, all American nominee, and Coach Raedyn Grasseth, The “Been There, Done That” Coaches Award.

Squad members are Candice Hoven, Sarah Phillips, Alyssa Braman, Briana Oxley, Kyler McKinley, Chelsea Paulsen, Lainie Ferguson, Paris Cothren, Megan Perez and Taryn Peterson.
