Sheriff’s Report - September 2, 2010

Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

August 23--9:18 a.m. Deer refuge personnel reported someone had stolen a contractor's generator valued around $1,900. 10:01 a.m. A caller reported someone had taken a Dodge Intrepid without permission. 4:25 p.m. A caller reported a boat and trailer had been stolen in the Elochoman Valley; an officer investigated and recovered the items. 4:50 p.m. A Skamokawa resident reported someone had broken into an unoccupied residence. 10:03 p.m. A caller reported thousands of small fish were dead and floating on the top of Elochoman Slough; the report was relayed to Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW).

August 24--7:26 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a Cathlamet man who possibly had a heart attack. 5:02 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a Puget Island man.

August 25--9:46 a.m. A Puget Island resident reported that young people had been camping and partying on Coffee Pot Island and had started a fire that burned down a fishing shack. 1:44 p.m. A caller said someone had broken into a house between Cathlamet and Skamokawa. 4:09 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a man with chest pain. 4:59 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a woman injured in an accident with a horse. 7:10 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a Little Island man who was reportedly gored by a cow. 7:21 p.m. A caller said a juvenile was missing at the Bradley Mountain off road vehicle park; Search and Rescue was dispatched; the subject was found at 8:30 p.m.

August 26--3:33 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a Cathlamet woman. 5:55 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a Puget Island man with chest pain. 6:55 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a Cathlamet woman. 8:55 p.m. A Rosedale business reported someone drove away without paying for gasoline; the driver was contacted and paid.

August 27--1:37 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to transport an Elochoman Valley man to a hospital. 9:48 p.m. An officer stopped a vehicle in Skamokawa and cited two minors for drinking alcohol. 10:42 p.m. Callers complained that a group of campers in Vista Park was being loud and causing a disturbance; an officer made contact.

August 28--1:07 a.m. A deputy reported finding an abandoned vehicle at a logging road gate. 12:02 p.m. A caller said three juveniles were trespassing on a barge along the Cathlamet waterfront. 4:05 p.m. Puget Island and Cathlamet firemen responded to a barn fire on Puget Island; they extinguished the fire before it could spread to a house. 6:15 p.m. A Puget Island resident said a person who had been riding a bicycle was trying to start a fight with a juvenile. 8:45 p.m. An officer cited a juvenile for drinking alcohol near Vista Park.

August 29--1:27 a.m. A caller reported someone had vandalized or removed traffic signs on West Birnie Slough Road; the road department and state highway crews were notified. 1:57 a.m. Officers and the Cathlamet ambulance responded to a one car accident on Little Island; alcohol was detected on the driver, and the state patrol investigated. 6:13 a.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported seeing people with spotlights trespassing on land near a herd of elk. 8:38 a.m. A Rosedale resident reported someone broke into a car and stole a stereo system. 1 p.m., 2:06 p.m. and 3:06 p.m. Cathlamet ambulance crews treated people who sustained injuries in the longboard races; none were taken to a hospital. 7:56 p.m. Officers responded to a Cathlamet address and arrested a man involved in a domestic dispute with a woman. 11:59 p.m. A deputy reported a person who was driving while his license was suspended.
