Three people sustained injuries and were taken to hospitals for treatment in a two-car collision last Thursday morning just east of Cathlamet.
Samantha N. McClain, 19, underwent surgery at Oregon Health and Science University hospital last week and again early this week for her injuries. The daughter of the Brian McClains of Cathlamet, she sustained shoulder and pelvic injuries. A fund has been established in her name in the Bank of the Pacific to help with her medical costs. She was wearing a seatbelt.
McClain was driving a 1995 Saturn westbound on SR 4 when the accident occurred. According to information from the Washington State Patrol, a 17-year-old male passenger in her vehicle grabbed the steering wheel during an argument, and the car veered to the westbound shoulder and then went into a spin on the highway where it collided with a 2008 Impala driven eastbound by Howard L. Anderson, 82, of Longview.
Anderson was airlifted to a Vancouver hospital for treatment of chest injuries. He was wearing a seatbelt.
The juvenile passenger in McClain's vehicle was taken to St. John Hospital in Longview for treatement of rib and leg pain. He wasn't wearing a seatbelt.
