Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
Little changed in local election results as officials counted late ballots last Wednesday.
Auditor Diane Tischer confirmed that one write-in candidate, Puget Island resident Dennis Gordon, advanced to the general election as a candidate for prosecuting attorney. Gordon tallied 13 votes; Cathlamet attorney Jennifer Hanigan had 12, and incumbent Dan Bigelow, the only announced candidate for the position, tallied 1,093.
In Washington's new top-two primary, the two candidates with the highest vote totals advance to the general election, regardless of party preference. A write-in candidate must receive at least 1 percent of the vote to advance, she added, and Gordon's 13 votes were just over 1 percent.
Updated totals for other local races were:
--Assessor: Independent Bill Coons, 834; Republican Sulema Zerr, the incumbent, 764.
--County Commissioner, District 3: Democrat Blair Brady, the incumbent, 278; Independent Lori Scott 181.
--Sheriff: Jon Dearmore, current undersheriff, 1,265; Tory E. Norris 203, and former Deputy Sheriff Josh Grasseth, 149. Grasseth was a declared write-in candidate; Dearmore and Norris are running as Indpendents.
PUD Commissioner, District 3, a non-partisan position: Esther Gregg, the incumbent, 172; Dennis R. Reid 142, Pam Anderson 139.
Election officials will perform the final count and certify the election on September 1, 1 p.m. Tischer said so far there are just over 20 absentee ballots to count.
