Local involvement makes choice for sheriff obvious

To The Eagle:

Considering the three candidates running for sheriff, the choice seems relatively easy. Jon Dearmore is the only candidate who is currently employed in law enforcement and has 20 years experience in this field. Jon has numerous law enforcement qualifications beyond the minimum required. His community involvement is shown by his membership on several committees and boards in the county, including Wahkiakum County 4-H, Wahkiakum Community Network, Timberland Regional Support Network, Region 4 Law Enforcement Terrorist Prevention, Cowlitz-Wahkiakum Narcotics Task Force and others. His time as undersheriff has shown the leadership and management skills necessary to become sheriff.

Those candidates running against him have had only a very short time in law enforcement and none in a supervisory position. Although both speak of their leadership and management skills, these claims are not supported in their information presented. Neither has cited where their leadership skills were attained, how many people they supervised, or how long they held these leadership positions. Neither seem to have attained management skills in the areas of people, budget or planning. One has even been arrested and is on probation as he is running for sheriff.

I hope the citizens of the county will base their votes on experience, integrity and honesty of the person running. If so, then Jon Dearmore stands head and shoulders above his opposition and deserves your vote.
