Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
Cassie Bolton and Akaysha Stonebreaker are the 2010 Wahkiakum County Fair Princesses. You may have already met and talked with them at Bald Eagle Days, as both girls were busy representing the Fair and selling pre-season Fair passes. The passes will get you into the Fair all three days and if you purchase them now from one of the princesses they are only $6. Cassie and Akaysha are also selling raffle tickets. This $1 ticket goes into our ticket tumbler and you have a chance to win the awesome prizes we have for this raffle. The grand prize is one night at the Great Wolf Lodge. A beautiful quilt handmade by Laurie Gomes will go to the next lucky ticket winner and so on till all the prizes are given away. At $1 a ticket it’s a bargain and your ticket purchase could be the one that turns your favorite princess into our 2010 Wahkiakum County Fair Queen!
The Fair Board is bringing some fantastic entertainment to the Fair this year. We wanted a quality poster to advertise our Fair and scheduled entertainment. I asked Lisa Mooers if she could put together a poster with pictures and Fair events listed. She has completed our poster and it will get your attention! Lisa has a unique talent, she can attractively fit a lot of information on a poster and that is just exactly what we need to advertise our Fair. Thank you Lisa!
Last winter Neil Beerbower and son Jeff took on a huge project. We had a lake in front of the arena caused by improper drainage. They dug ditches, put in rock, laid in pipe, added more rock and completed the project. Commissioner Blair Brady keeps an eye on the projects the Fair Board does and he also knows we have a budget to stay within. He has watched a lot of effort go into projects this year by volunteers and Fair Board members. Blair knew this was an expensive project for the Board, one that had to be done and we would have to do a lot of fund raising to cover the costs. Mr. Brady generously offered to pay for half of the project costs. At our last Fair Board meeting, true to his word, Mr. Brady handed over a check to cover half of the project costs and we are in line with our projected budget again. Thank you Commissioner Blair Brady!
