Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:
June 21--11:59 a.m. A caller reported a cedar tree was on fire below SR 4 2.5 miles east of Cathlamet; District 4 firemen responded to fall the tree and extinguish the fire. 10:40 p.m. A Middle Valley Road resident reported someone was making noise around the garage; an officer responded and reported seeing a family of raccoons in the area.
June 22--9:29 a.m. A caller reported people were digging freshwater clams, which is against the law, on Hornstra's Beach; the Fish and Wildlife police were notified. 1:49 p.m. A caller reported seeing a juvenile tying up another on the Cathlamet school playground; no one was around when an officer arrived. 3:12 p.m. A Waranka Road resident reported a person claiming to be from the US Army Corps of Engineers tried to trespass; a deputy made contact. 5:52 p.m. Officers, District 4 firemen and the Cathlamet ambulance responded to Little Cape Horn where a vehicle had run into a guardrail along SR 4; no one was injured.
June 23--8:40 a.m. An East Valley resident reported two males had been at his shop the previous night and stolen gasoline. 9:33 a.m. A Main Street resident reported a theft of gasoline. 1:26 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a two-year-old boy who had fallen and broken an arm. 1:37 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a three-month-old baby with breathing difficulty. 4:45 p.m. A caller from the Skamokawa Fairgrounds reported someone had broken into a shed and stolen a new can filled with gasoline. 9:43 p.m. Loop Road residents reported phone lines weren't working; Wahkiakum West was notified.
June 24--12:14 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a person having a stroke. 4:27 p.m. A caller reported his ex-wife had taken items from his garage; a deputy investigated. 5:38 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a person, reported to be drunk, lying in the middle of a street in Rosedale.
June 25--1:30 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a Cathlamet woman with breathing trouble. 11:56 a.m. A Covered Bridge Road resident reported seeing a dog chasing deer and then the neighbor's cattle; deputies were advised. 4 p.m. A caller reported power was out and water was leaking from a meter on Jacobson Road; the town water crew was advised. 5:48 p.m. An East Valley resident reported being harassed. 8:21 p.m. A Cathlamet business requested help with a customer who barricaded himself in a restroom; the person was gone when an officer arrived.
June 26--3:55 a.m. The Grays River ambulance responded to aid a man with abdominal trouble. 8:26 a.m. An East Sunny Sands resident reported a theft. 5:36 a.m. A motorist reported someone had keyed his car while it was parked at the courthouse. 7 p.m. A caller reported someone had damaged a gate along Beaver Creek Road. 9:02 p.m. A caller reported people were digging freshwater clams on Hornstra's Beach; the Fish and Wildlife police were notified.
June 27--1:06 a.m. A caller reported a crowd had gathered and two men were fighting along SR 4 near Skamokawa; the people were gone when an officer arrived; an officer later contacted the participants and asked them to make statements. 1:10 a.m. A person reported seeing a flash of white light and hearing a boom over the Columbia across from Cape Horn. 8:14 a.m. A caller reported someone had stolen items from a worksite at Nassa Point. 12:27 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a woman with an infected pacemaker. 6:09 p.m. A caller reported people were getting very vocal in a dispute over ownership of a trailer at a Clover Street residence; an officer made contact. 6:46 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a Cathlamet woman who was dehydrated and disoriented. 8:13 p.m. An Elochoman Valley Road resident reported a power outage; the PUD was notified.
