To The Eagle:
I believe that 2010 is an election year. Some places, i.e. the state of Arizona, had a special election because their issue could not wait until November.
Arizona needed to raise more revenue or cut existing programs. Waiting until November would be costly, so a special election ballot with a single issue was used in May to seek voter approval to raise (yes raise) the state sales tax by one per cent. And the issue passed. Time was an issue in Arizona. Higher state taxes in Arizona will not impact land ownership.
Is time a factor with the NHA proposal in our county? Putting the NHA issue to the public as a part of the November ballot would not add significant cost to the ballot.
Putting the decision to the voters should not cost any elected official their office. Our county commissioners have in the past put things on a November ballot.
When voters are expected to pay higher taxes history shows that such choices are put on the ballot.
Will living in a NHA increase our taxes? I don't know, do you? If being a NHA requires some "oversight" who will pay? Yes, you guessed it, you will pay.
If the voters think living in a NHA is to their benefit (or not) then they should be given the chance to vote it "up or down."
