Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
The Wahkiakum County Fairgrounds will be covered with fancy cars and lots of people, as the Dollars for Scholars event is this Saturday.
Some lucky fishermen will bring in big prehistoric looking sturgeon to be weighed and measured for the Sturgeon Derby. There will be lots of raffle prize drawings and good food. Stop by and support this fund-raiser that provides scholarships for the Naselle and Wahkiakum High School graduating seniors, see you there!
We will be having another work party today (Thursday), 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the fairgrounds to get ready for this weekend's event. Do you have a little time to help? Bring some gloves and see you there.
The Fair Board would like to thank Fair Board member Jean Beerbower for the many hours of volunteer work she puts in every week at the Fairgrounds. She has been working on the flower beds around the buildings and spent many hours putting together our “Fair and 4-H Rummage Sale.” She is a volunteer that is dependable start to finish on the many projects that need to be done. Thank you Jean!
Thank you again, to the Elochoman Valley Partners for showing up last Thursday and volunteering their time and equipment to help at our work party. You did an excellent job!
Do you still have items to donate to our rummage sale? We will be accepting donations of your useable items on June 10, noon to 3 p.m., to sell at our “Fair and 4-H Rummage Sale.” The next sale will be on June 19. We are in need of a small desk to use in the office, if you have one to spare please bring it by on June 10 or give Lore a call at 849-4315.
June 19 will be a special day for the Wahkiakum County Fair Board as we will hold the first Silver Buckle Open Game Show Series at our new arena that day. We are starting to put posters up for this new event locally and in the surrounding counties. These posters were designed by local graphic artist Lisa Mooers. Lisa and I discussed ideas and the information that needed to be on the poster, then she arranged and created this outstanding poster. Thank you Lisa!
A reminder for horse riders: Because of the Dollars for Scholars event at the fairgrounds, we ask that you do not use the arena on June 5.
The next Wahkiakum County Fair Board meeting is June 9, 7 p.m., T-building at the Wahkiakum County Fairgrounds in Skamokawa. The public is always welcome to attend.
The fair office is open for limited hours in June, if you need to gain access to the Fairgrounds contact manager Lore Twiet at 360-849-4315 or call the Fair Office at 360-795-3480 and leave a message.
