Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
To The Eagle:
I fall into the unenlightened camp in the debate over the national heritage area (NHA) and ShoreBank. I came away more confused after the meeting (last Tuesday with county commissioners), but now that I have read the great shining light on the hill, also know as The Eagle/Rick Nelson, it is all clear: "Let's get on with it."
What's wrong with trying to get informed? Rick's opinion column took a page right out of the liberal playbook: If the people question, imply they spoke of death threats and/or that a revolution has to be violent. "Will the commissioners be scared into a decision?" he wrote.
I hope they are smart enough to smell a rat.
Mark Twain said, "A banker is a fellow who lends you his umbrella when the sun is shining but wants it back the minute it begins to rain."
Rick is ready to trade the farm, no, the whole county, for some magic beans.
The meeting was not a total loss. It was educational. I have no Indian heritage, but this is what the natives must have felt like when they awoke on the reservation. The man came to town with a deal too good to be true. Two of the biggest lies in our culture are 1. "The check is in the mail. and 2. "I am here from the government and I am here to help you."
Well, I have to run. I heard they're selling Dr. Kilmer's Swamp Rood Kidney, Liver and Bladder Cure behind the courthouse. I don't need that either, but what a great deal.
