Farm market sets opening day record

The Two Islands Farm Market 2010 season opened on May 7 to a record 173 visitors, the most for an opening day. Market owners Mike and Kim Howell and Rob and Diane Stockhouse welcomed both the visitors and beautiful weather. Market vendors included the Little Island Farm, Stockhouse Farm, Farm at 172, Island’s End Farm, Greyfields Farm and Barney’s Bread. The Chief Wahkiakum Trolley brought many visitors and customers from the Elochoman Marina and downtown Cathlamet to enjoy the products and other offerings at Puget Island’s Two Islands Farm Market. The Wahkiakum Acoustic Guitar Society provided music and the Master Gardeners offered advice for spring planting. The Chamber of Commerce helped conduct a ribbon cutting celebrating the reopening of the Farm Market for the year.

“The Farm Market will have new offerings this year,” said Kim Howell. The Little Island Farm is offering a new line of USDA processed goat sausages along with other goat meat products by the cut. The Two Island Farm, the Farm at 172, and the Island’s End Farm featured many spring greens, along with asparagus, leeks, and Puget Island kiwis. There were also wonderful jams, goat milk soaps and lotions, organic granolas and dried beans, eggs and fresh chickens. Greyfields Farm featured Puget Island grass fed, grass finished lamb by-the-cut along with some remaining beef and veal from over-winter. Diane Stockhouse said, “We have many varieties of veggie starts available for planting in your own gardens.”

The Farm Market for May 14 will again feature the Wahkiakum Acoustic Guitar Society. There will be a new vendor, Kelly Henry, who will offer freshly baked croissants and pastries. The Trolley will pick up visitors from the Marina on the hour beginning at 3 p.m. through 6 p.m. with return trips provided approximately 45 minutes later. There will be a whole new array of spring vegetables as well as breads and all the other products mentioned above.
