National Volunteer Week, April 18-24, is held annually to acknowledge the contributions of individuals and organizations. It began in 1974 when President Richard Nixon signed an executive order establishing the week as an annual celebration of volunteering. Every president since has signed a proclamation promoting volunteering.

A Gallup survey for the Independent Sector found that 44 percent of adult Americans volunteer an average of 3.6 hours per week.

Washington State University Extension in Wahkiakum County is proud to have 30 adult 4-H volunteer leaders working with county youth. We also have eight Master Gardeners, two Clothing and Textile Advisors, one Livestock Advisor and two Food Safety Advisors serving our community.

Trained adult volunteers are one of the strengths of the WSU Extension program. These individuals serve the community by working with youth and adults through educational programs and outreach services.

We are very proud to have such a strong dedicated group of volunteers. Thank you for volunteering your time and expertise for WSU Extension in Wahkiakum County.
