What's Happening at the Fair?

It’s Easter Bingo Time! The fair board would like to thank Foster Farms and Hancock Forest Management for their generous donations to this Wahkiakum County Fair fund raiser.

We have lots of wonderful raffle prizes donated by local businesses too, I will have their names in my next column, as we are still collecting prizes for the bingo at this time. Easter Bingo is tomorrow (Friday), 6:30 p.m. at the J.A. Wendt multi-purpose room. The Special Raffle this time is a laptop computer; at a dollar a ticket someone is going to win a wonderful prize! Bingo cards are three for $10. Bring a can of food and we will trade you a bingo card for it. The cans of food will be donated to our local food bank. All proceeds from our Easter Bingo go to support the operation of the Wahkiakum County Fair.

Thank you, Carol McClain, for donating some iris bulbs to be planted on the fairgrounds. If you have bedding plants that need to be thinned or extra bulbs, like Carol gave us, we would like to plant them at the fairgrounds. We want the fairgrounds to be colorful all spring and summer, and your donations will help brighten up the events we plan to do before the fair.

We are still collecting items for the April 10-11 4-H and Fair Rummage sale. We appreciate your donated items, every dollar generated ensures we have a fair each year. Call 795-3278 or 795-3480 if you have something you would like to donate.

Have you ever created and entered a poster exhibit at our fair? It’s easy. Pick out a subject you like, draw or find a picture of it, type or write some interesting facts about your subject on 3” by 5” pieces of white paper. Purchase a piece of colored poster paper and paste everything in an interesting manner on the poster paper. The secret to receiving a blue ribbon is neatness, being able to read the poster from 10 feet away and the number of interesting facts you have about your subject. It's easy; try it! We need these educational posters to receive high scores from the State Fair Commissioner. You will receive premium points for cash and help your fair meet its quota of Educational Posters.

The next Wahkiakum County Fair Board meeting is April 14, 7 p.m., 3rd floor courthouse meeting room. The public is always welcome to attend.

The fair office is open by appointment only. If you need to gain access to the fairgrounds contact Becky at 360-795-3434. You can call 360-795-3480 and leave a message on the fairgrounds answering machine also.
