Roy Rodal

Lifelong Cathlamet resident, Roy Rodal, 92, passed away March 15, 2010 at Community Hospice in Longview. He was born August 3, 1917 on Puget Island to Nels and Petra (Sveno) Rodal. He graduated from Wahkiakum High School in 1936. On September 7, 1940 he married Lois (Auer) Rodal; she survives him at home. In 2005 he and Lois moved to Longview to be near their family.

He had several jobs locally before beginning his career with Crown Zellerbach, there he worked as a boom man and tug boat operator, he retired after 35 years. Roy also worked for Brusco Tug & Barge for many years at the same time. He was a family man, loved gardening, fishing, clam digging, his home and the beach house he built. He will be missed by many.

In addition to his wife Lois, he is survived by a son, Gary Rodal and his wife Linda of Shelton; a daughter Barbara Sundberg and her husband, Bill of Longview; a brother, Lloyd Rodal of Portland, Ore .; four grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his five siblings.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Steele Chapel at Longview Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. until after the service. Private entombment will take place at Greenwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Roy Rodal’s name to Community Hospice, P.O.
