Corey A. Barnes

Cathlamet resident, Corey Andreau Barnes, 20, passed away March 4, 2010 at OHSU in Portland, Ore. He was born February 20, 1990 in Longview to Kimberly Mathis and Mel Barnes. He attended Wahkiakum and Kelso Schools.

He had worked in construction, timber falling and commercial fishing. Corey was a certified firefighter, he fought forest fires in Eastern Washington. He loved music, basketball, the outdoors, camping and hunting. He loved his family and friends.

He is survived by his parents, Kimberly Havens and her significant other, Mike Beaston; his father and stepmother, Mel and Lisa Barnes; his step-father Larry Havens; a son Jace McElroy and his mother Kara; the mother of his soon to be baby, Meagan McCafferty; his brothers, Christopher Barnes, Jade Havens, Brock Kirschner and Brett Havens; his sisters, Kaari Kirschner and Alyssa Long; his grandparents, Joan Mathis, Ray and Lynda Mathis, Diane Roberson and Roger and Evelyn Barnes; his great-grandparents, Elsie Mathis and Reino Mannikko and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Corey will be missed by his family and his many friends.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. today (Thursday) at Steele Chapel at Longview Memorial Park with a reception to follow in the social room. Memorial contributions may be made in Corey Barnes name to Cowlitz County Juvenile Dept. Youth & Family Link, 1725 1st. Ave. Longview, WA 98632 or an account has been set up at Cowlitz Credit Union (Acct#19214) to help family with funeral expenses. Steele Chapel at Longview Memorial Park and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
