The Washington Department of Transportation is planning another rockfall project along SR 4 at Stella.
Work is planned to start this May. The department recently awarded a contract to Granite Construction Company of Bellingham, who bid $109,806 for the project.
The contractor will remove loose rock, unstable soil, trees and other debris from this slope. In addition, crews will install rock anchors to hold large rocks in place to further stabilize the rock slope above the highway.
The department says the project will reduce the risk of rocks falling onto the highway and it will improve safety by protecting the traveling public.
Maintenance records and geotechnical investigations show that rock fall prevention is necessary at this location in order to reduce the risk of rocks falling onto the highway and protect the traveling public.
Work should begin in May and be completed by end of the summer.
