What's happening at the Fair?

This month we welcome three local people to serve on the Wahkiakum County Fair Board.

New board member Debbie Twiet grew up in Skamokawa. She is a skilled carpenter and her knowledge of that trade will be very useful, as we have two buildings to plan and build. Welcome Debbie!

New board member Jean Beerbower has been the Exotic Animal and Pocket Pet Superintendent at our fair for 12 years. Jean already has many volunteer hours in at the fairgrounds weeding, cleaning and planning. Welcome Jean!

New alternate board member Cheryl Backman has been involved in Fair Board fund raising events for many years. She helps her mother Martha Backman set up for the Turkey Bingo and the Easter Bingo each year. Welcome Cheryl!

Some interest in a horse gaming show is starting to surface. With the arena we now have, I am not surprised. Gaming shows are full of action. Riders run their horses at top speed around barrels and poles. The horse and rider with the fewest seconds on the timer, when they charge over the finish line, is the winner.

The Fair Board is trying to keep expenses down and to put good times to the top of our list. If you would like to volunteer at the fairgrounds, we would welcome your help. Spring time is approaching.

Do you remember the fair rummage sales? On April 10 and 11, 4-H and Fair Board members are bringing that tradition back. We all have good items that we no longer use, please donate them to this rummage sale. Call 795-3278 (WSU Ext. Office) or 795-3480 (Fair Office) to make arrangements to drop off your donated items. All sales will benefit 4-H and our Wahkiakum County Fair.

Do you feel lucky? Easter Bingo is coming right up on April 2nd. This fund raiser is always lots of fun, more details soon.

The next Wahkiakum County Fair Board meeting will be March 10, 7 p.m. 3rd floor courthouse, meeting room. The public is always welcome to attend.

The fair office is now open by appointment only. If you need to gain access to the fairgrounds contact Becky at 795-3434.

You can call 360-795-3480 and leave a message on the fairgrounds answering machine also.
