Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
Can you believe the past couple of weeks and the magnificent weather we have had? Looks like that is about to come to an end this week as they are calling for rain once again. I guess we should be grateful for the mild weather we have had this winter, though.
We have had the opportunity to see some interesting wildlife antics here on our property. Just the other day, I watched a heron try to land in our birch tree on a branch about 40 feet up. He made a big circle and attempted to land, only to fall all the way to the ground. He wasn’t hurt, but looked a little embarrassed, shook himself off and flew to the middle of the pasture where he seemed content to stay for a while. Quite a sight.

Other news from the Westend:
This news is just a little late, but after talking with Carol Ervest earlier this week, I understand that she was the lucky winner of the diamond heart necklace at the Valentine’s Day Dinner in Skamokawa on the 14th. Carol was also the winner of the diamond necklace two years ago at the first fundraiser for the fair. Last year I was the winner, so I guess I’d better not miss it next year, if this trend keeps going. I understand the dinner was outstanding, the food, delicious and the entertainment, fantastic. All for a good cause. We need to keep our county fair going. Many thanks to all the volunteers and the community for supporting the fair.
Naselle High School Senior, Cassie Bolton, is putting on a fundraiser for the Johnson Park kitchen and cafeteria upgrade. She has been working extremely hard and is gathering gently used items for her garage/rummage sale and bake sale that will take place this weekend. The hours have changed slightly. On Saturday, the hours will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Sunday the hours will be from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. This fundraiser is part of Cassie’s senior project.
I have been told that you can also grab a bowl of soup and home made bread as you peruse the items for sale as well as pick up some delicious baked goods.
You can also bring items to the Rosburg School on Thursday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and drop them off at the Community Computer Center. Baked goods can also be donated on the day of the sale.
If you have items to donate or need more information, you can call Cassie at 465-2148 or 360 783-1198. Her e-mail address is: c_bolton91@hotmail.com.
