What's Happening at the Fair?

The wait is almost over as our third Annual Valentine’s Diamond dinner is happening this Saturday! Fear not, as tickets are still available, just call our ticket hotline on 360-849-0001 or stop in at the Lower Columbia Realty or Bank of the Pacific offices in Cathlamet.

An evening filled with delights, enjoy our delicious bacon wrapped filet mignon, heavenly wine and scrumptious dessert. Tickets are a steal at $25 and include a raffle ticket for our beautiful diamond necklace.

We’ve pulled out all the stops and will be featuring some of Wahkiakum's best talents, so grab your sweetheart and head on down to the Skamokawa Grange Hall, this Saturday from 6 p.m.

We have a winner! After weeks of speculation I am delighted to announce our 102nd fair theme contest winners are Stewart and Ginger Moonen! Congratulations to the Moonen clan who came up with this year’s ‘Blue Jeans & Country Dreams’ theme. As the contest winner, they will receive a check for $25 thanks to Wahkiakum Fair Friends, part of the Wahkiakum Community Foundation.

The fair board has been working hard, trying to find ways to work together to ensure we are right on schedule for this year’s fair. Due to budget cuts my position has been limited to 530.5 hours for the entire year. As a part-time employee, I am not allowed to exceed 480 hours within a six month period so the fair board has joined together to fill in the gaps.

President Becky Ledtke and I have created a new timetable, allowing us to utilize my time and help lend support where I need it most. For 2010 we’ve formed new committees which can focus on specific areas, allowing more community input.

Soon we will be focusing our energy on the new Premium Book so this is the time for suggestions. Do you think there should be a contest for the largest vegetable? What about adding a new event or contest? I want to hear your ideas. You can call the fair office (795 3480) send me an email (wahkiakumfair@centurytel.net) or drop your ideas in the mail (P.O. Box 1, Skamokawa, WA 98647).

Have you ever felt like Royalty? Would you like to? Why not join the 2010 fair Royalty program? The King and/or Queen receive a $500 scholarship. If you’re 15 or older and live in the Wahkiakum/Naselle area, contact the fair office today.

The next fair board meeting will take place on March 10 at 7 p.m. in the 3rd floor meeting room of the courthouse. Please note that the public is always welcome to attend.

If you need to gain access to the fairgrounds please contact the fair office 360-795-3480 or leave a message on my cell phone 360-355-7743.
