News from Naselle:
I had a note from one of the Westend folks attending the Naselle Booster Club Crab Feed last Friday evening. Poul Toftemark said the feed was “awesome,” and all the trimmings, just wonderful. In order to work off some of the goodness, he opted to attend the basketball game afterwards. In his words he says, “The feed was followed by a fierce game with the slaphappy defense of Valley. The Naselle boys stayed the course and had the lead the whole game, thanks in part to some great 3 point shooting. Valley came close toward the end with their relentless defense, which at times frustrated the Comets. They persevered and won the game. Great win guys! A special thanks for your dress code on game day, very much appreciated!”
Don’t forget to mark your ballots for the upcoming levy. It only takes a few minutes.

Other news from the Westend:
Once again the Skamokawa Grange will be the site of the annual Valentine Diamond Dinner, on February 13 located by the Wahkiakum County Fair Grounds. The Fair Board is preparing a delicious filet mignon steak dinner complete with desert and wine. The cost is $25 per person. The dinner will be served from 6 – 8 p.m., then a raffle drawing for a diamond necklace and other wonderful prizes. Raffle tickets are $1 each and are sold exclusively to the people who are at the dinner. To start this romantic evening, you will be entertained with quietly played piano while you enjoy your dinner and then to finish the evening, a talented local acoustic guitar group. Please order your tickets by calling 849-0001 and Jean will direct you where to leave your check and pick up your tickets. Fair board members will have tickets for sale also. This is a fun night and a great way to support your “Wahkiakum County Fair” as all proceeds go to the fair.
Not to be a braggart, but the Westend seems to have a monopoly on winning the big prize for the last two years. Last year, I was the one who came home with a beautiful heart shaped diamond necklace, and the year before it was Carol Ervest of Rosburg. Better luck this year! I hear the Westend county commissioner will be one of the cooks again this year. This is always a great meal for a wonderful cause. Get your tickets now!
Speaking of getting tickets, there are only 225 available for the American Legion Deep River Post #111, Annual Crab Feed. They always sell out, so get yours now. The feed will take place on March 6 at the Rosburg Hall. Tickets are $25 and include crab, (all you can eat) oysters, baked beans, garlic bread, potato salad and coleslaw. The best Crab Feed around! For tickets and more information call Dale Rose (465-2234) or Dan Anderson (465-2615). More to come on this event.
The Wednesday Senior Lunch Bunch that meets at Rosburg Hall will enjoy a great winter meal of soup, salad, rolls and dessert on the 3rd. Great food and even greater company.

Those menus for this week are as follows: Thursday, the 28th: pork ribs, Hoppin John, coleslaw with pineapple, peas and cauliflower and apricot bars.
