Lady Mules throttle Pe Ell 70-46

The Wahkiakum Lady Mules basketball team started fast and finished hard in a 70-46 win over the visiting Pe Ell Trojans last Thursday.

Hot shooting paced the Mules to a 17-9 first quarter advantage. The Mules outscored the Trojans 16-15 in the second quarter to lead 33-24 at halftime. The Mules got the fast break going in the third quarter for an 18-8 advantage, and that put the game away.

Halie Boyce led the scoring with 24 points for the Mules. Jordyn Wirkkala had 16, Evelyn Clark 14, Becka Patching six, Ashley Helms five, Shelby Felton three and Brianne Helms two.

Felton had six rebounds; Clark, A. Helms and Wirkkala each had five rebounds. Boyce and Clark each had four steals; Wirkkala had three. A. Helms made nine assists.

"The girls played a great game defensively," Coach Tiffany Niemeyer commented. "They came out and took care of business, starting the first quarter. Every player contributed; the bench came in and gave us some great minutes."

The Mules made 26 of 48 shots, 54 percent, and 12 of 21 free throws, 43 percent. The Mules shot 64 percent from two-point range and 35 percent from three-point range, Niemeyer said.

Freshman Sami Jo Robinson led the Trojans with 18 points. The Trojans made 14 of 51 shots, 27 percent, and 13 of 16 free throws, 81 percent.

The Mule varsity plays at White Pass tonight. They entertain Mossyrock on Tuesday.
