Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
To The Eagle:
I wish to say farewell to the taxpayers of Wahkiakum County.
Being a tax appraiser is not a thankful job anywhere but when the taxpayers are as wonderful as those in this county, it has been doable. These past few years with the economy being so poor, has made this position even less desirable for myself as well as the taxpayers. I really can't blame the taxpayers a bit for any ill feelings, however it has taken its toll on me too and I am looking forward to being retired.
Kay Cochran is a person I am thankful for and indebted to for hiring me in 1989. Kay has one of the best work ethics I've ever known. Both Kay and Marsha Souvenir should receive awards for their patience with me as I've never been the best at stress.
If I have a wish when leaving Wahkiakum County, it would be that taxpayers will continue to try to understand the constraints of property tax assessment and show some compassion to their current assessor, Sulema Zerr as well as Marsha Souvenir who works on a bit of everything in the office. Additionally I would hope that taxpayers will allow the new appraiser, Mr. Denny Bryant, a running chance to serve you fairly in his duties. Please keep in mind that the Assessor's Office is trying to accomplish rapidly increasing workloads on an almost impossible budget.
Mike Funderburg,
Wahkiakum County
Assessors Office
