Longtime Cathlamet resident, Alice Leila Everman, 92, passed away January 17, 2010 at Columbia View Care Center. She was born July 9, 1917 in Laurel, Ore. to William and Annabelle (Davis) Bryant. She graduated from Rainier High School in 1935 and later graduated from Lower Columbia College. She married Stanley Everman in 1939; together they moved to Cathlamet in 1953; he survives her at home after 70 years of marriage.
Mrs. Everman was an active member in all capacities at United Church of Christ (Congregational) including teaching Sunday school for 45 years and was a member of the Lettie Warren Guild. She had a love for children which led her to volunteer at J.A. Wendt Elementary School and the HOST program, as well as being a leader for both the Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts. She also volunteered at Hospice and ARC where she loved to help those with special needs. She was a past member of the Cathlamet Woman’s Club.
She worked as a site manager for CAP in Longview for 10 years; retiring in 1985. She and Stan enjoyed walking and traveling.
In addition to her husband Stanley; she is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Sandy Everman of Cathlamet; a son, Curtis Everman of Longview; her daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Jerry Davis of Snohomish, WA; a sister, Clara Barnes of Portland, Ore .; and many nieces and nephews. She was also blessed with her grandchildren, Michael and Jane Davis, Gregory Davis and his fiancé Katheryn, Zachary and Amy Everman and Alexander Everman; and great-grandchildren, Stephanie, Geoffrey, Alyson and Isaiah Davis and Bennett Everman.
She was preceded in death by brothers Avery and Claude Bryant and sisters Esther Perren, Irene Ryan and Eva Wright.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at United Church of Christ. Private internment will be at Green Mountain Cemetery in Rainier, Ore. Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. today (Thursday) at Dowling Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made in Alice Everman’s name to United Church of Christ, P.O.
