St. James afterschool program awarded funding

St. James Family Center's Afterschool Care Program recently received $3,000 as a Quality Enhancement grant from School's Out Washington.

Among 21 programs throughout the state to be awarded the grant, the center will use the funds to enhance its afterschool program.

The Quality Enhancement Grant project, an annual funding opportunity administered by School's Out Washington, is designed to improve the quality of Washington State's afterschool programs from school age children, ages 5-12, particularly those from low-income families, communities of color and those with special needs. Through funding provided by the Quality Enhancement Grant project, St. James Family Center will offer new opportunities for indoor and outdoor active play and training for staff that is geared towards school-aged children. Children will stay active and engaged with new age appropriate scooters, rollerblades, safety equipment and a Nintendo Wii with fitness games for active movement on rainy days.

Funding for the Quality Enhancement grant is provided by the Washington State Department of Early Learning.
