Mule boys rip Clatskanie,Toutle Lake

The Wahkiakum Mule boys basketball team won two games this week and saw a record setting performance.

Senior guard Cody Olsen scored 43 points last Thursday in the Mules' 102-62 win over the Clatskanie Tigers, breaking the record of 42 points shared by Jerod Moore, Chuck Ward, and Don Ostling.

The Mules shot to a 32-15 first quarter lead and were up 55-33 at halftime.

Also for the Mules, Troy Howard scored 14 points, Wyatt Parker nine, Brett Chaput seven, Justin McClain six, John Chamber, Brad Pugh and Ryan Helms five each, and Cole Claussen and Andrew Weiler two each.

Pugh had six rebounds.

On Tuesday, the Mules opened Central League play with a 58-50 win over the visiting Toutle Lake Ducks.

The teams played evenly until the fourth quarter when the Mules built a seven point lead. Toutle cut the margin to three points with a minute left, but the Mules grabbed rebounds and made free throws to gain the win.

Olsen led the scoring with 20 points. Parker put in 16, Howard and Chambers nine each, and Bain four. Bain grabbed 10 rebounds; Parker had seven and Howard six. Chambers had four steals, Olsen and Howard each had three. Chambers made seven assists; Holsen had five and Howard four.

Mule Coach Bill Olsen was ill and missed the game.

The Mules entertain the Vancouver Christian Light Monday starting with a two-quarter junior varsity game at 6:15 p.m.

The Mule junior varsity also won two.

The Mule JV's stopped Clatskanie 74-52. Andrew Weiler led balanced scoring with 16 points. Lars Blix had 15, Zach Pierce 12, BrandonFudge eight, Peter Weiler and Cole Claussen six each, Steven Doumit five, and Eli McElroy, Brook Calvert and Mitchel Dault two each.

Blix grabbed 10 rebounds; P. Weiler had eight, and Fudge, A. Weiler and Calvert all had five.

The JV's rolled over Toutle Lake 69-31.

Blix led the Mule scoring with 17 points; Pierce had 15, P. Weiler and McElroy eight each, A. Weiler, Doumit and Claussen six each, and Fudge three. P. Weiler had nine rebounds, seven assists and five steals. Blix had eight rebounds; Fudge made seven assists, and Claussen had five steals.
