What's Happening at the Fair?

Turkey bingo is finally here! For one night only, try your luck and see if you can walk away with a Thanksgiving turkey for your family. Held each year at the Julius A. Wendt Elementary in Cathlamet, the turkey prizes are generously donated by local businesses in the Wahkiakum area. For your chance to win, join us this Saturday (the 21st) from 6 p.m.

You won’t want to miss this year’s raffle as we have some incredible prizes, including a Wii console and Blu-Ray player. Only $1 a ticket, don’t miss your chance to win these fantastic prizes.

There’ll be treats, prizes and turkeys galore, with all proceeds benefiting next year’s 2010 fair. Fun for the whole family, the fair board and I hope you’ll come down and join us.

Following our 101st fair celebration this August, there are a few people who have not cashed their premium checks. The checks are only valid for 45 days so most of the checks are soon to expire. The following 2009 exhibitors have not cashed their premium checks: Jae Stewart, Ian Turner, Lore Twiet, Amanda Powell, Jody Patterson-Morrill, Jayney Roskamp, Jerry Badger, Tanner Collupy, Tristen Collupy, Thomas Dennis, Will Dennis, Taylor Gundmundsen, Amelia Glase, Cattral Patterson and Mikey Jones. If you would like to donate your check back to fair please just let me know, otherwise please ensure you cash your check ASAP. Once the 45 days pass your check will no longer be valid.

Do you want to go to college but need a little help getting there? Why not join the 2010 fair royalty program? The King and/or Queen receive a $500 scholarship. It’s a great way to meet new people and gain experience for your resume. Call or email the fair office for more information.

Horse gate keys are now available. Don’t miss your chance to take advantage of our fantastic new arena. Keys cost $50 and are good for one year. If you’d like to sign up to use the new riding arena call the fair office today.

Would you like to become involved with the planning of our 102nd fair next summer? The fair board is looking for new volunteers and potential members to join one of the new fair committees. Whether it’s entertainment, the princess program or the fair book, this is your chance to help make a difference and let your voice be heard.

It’s not too late to donate flowers or bulbs for the fair. If you have any spare call the fair office. We’ll even come and pick them up!

Are you looking for a way to support the fair but don’t have time to volunteer? Fear not, as you can always show your support via our ‘Friends of the Fair’ program. For a small donation of $25 you will receive free entry into all 2010 fairground events, including our 102nd fair celebration. Not only is your donation tax deductible but will help ensure the continuation of our historic county fair.

Please be aware that the Wahkiakum County Fair board meets every month on the second Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the 3rd floor meeting room of the courthouse. The next fair board meeting will take place on December 9. Please note that the public is always welcome to attend.

In an effort to cut costs and stay within our budget the fair office will now be open by appointment only. If you need to gain access to the fairgrounds please contact the fair office 360-795-3480 or leave a message on my cell phone 360-355-7743.
