Runners from the Wahkiakum Mule and Naselle Comet cross country teams will compete in this Saturday's state championship race.
The top four teams and 20 individuals in the boys race and the top two teams and 10 individuals in the girls race advance to the championships on Saturday at Pasco.
Northwest Christian won the boys team title with 55 points. Mossyrock was second with 60, followed by North Beach 92 and White Pass 95. Naselle tallied 198 points, and Wahkiakum ran incomplete.
In the girls races, both Wahkiakum and Naselle ran incomplete.
Qualifying for the state meet were Naselle’s 6. Cramer Smith and 7. Nathan Reitz and for the Mules, 15. Bradlee Pugh and 17 Collan Riley.
"The "plague" hit our team hard; a third of the team was ill or with injury," said Mule Coach Mike Riley. "Conditions were challenging as the Mules had to maneuver their way through the soggy course, which at times was quite muddy, even claiming a shoe here and there."
